Production log 6
What progress did you make since your previous entry?
Since my last entry i have recorded all the voice overs for my documentary, i have also downloaded all the music and the archive footage that i needed for the documentary. I have also managed to get all of the editing done. I also managed to put the cuts in between the archive footage to make it have a bit of style to it. I final also added transitions between each shot so that they flow together more than just having none at all.
What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
The logistical challenges that I faced was that I did not know what to say or how to introduce the people that was being interviewed through voice over, however I asked my teacher to give me a rough idea of what i could say and went from there.
What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them?
Some technical challenges that I faced this week was with the graphic's of people's names and the title there was not on the screen for long enough which meant that i had to go on to live type and make the time longer and export it again for it to come up on the screen for about 5 seconds to give the audience time to read the names without rushing.
What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?
The target that I aim to achieve before my next entry is to have my teacher check to see if all the editing is fine and to tell me if i need to make any changes or where i can improve on certain things or what i should change or take out so that my documentary can be the best it possible can be.

Production Log 5
What progress did you make since your previous entry?
Since my last entry I have re filmed all of the scenes and shots that i thought needed to be done again for my documentary, i have also recored my voice overs with the voice recorder. I have also managed to get the first 2-3 minuets done. I also managed to put all of the clips i needed onto final cut pro. I also managed to sort out the parts that had gone out of sync from the video's.
What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
The logistical challenges that I faced was that when i had to put the voice overs in from different interviews i had to make sure that they were all in the right place at the right time and that there was not a lot of gaps between them.
What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them?
Some technical challenges that I faced this week was that with trying to move certain voice overs to different places and it would move other video's to different places, which meant that i would have to move it all and do some of the stuff again to make sure that all of it is in the correct place at the right time.
What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?
The target that I aim to achieve before my next entry is to have 5 minuets all edited, to also make sure that I got all of my voice overs done and make sure that all the archive footage and the music is on the timeline in the right place with cuts in the footage to make it more interesting.

Production Log 4
What progress did you make since your previous entry?
Since my last entry I have filmed my all of the scenes and shots for my documentary, i have also filmed certain parts that will just be my voice. I have also started editing and I plan to have the introduction and the first 2-3 minuets done by the time i come to do my next production log, this is so that i can be finished on the deadline date.
What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
The logistical challenges that I faced was that when I went to put some of the videos on to final cut pro and edited them they did not come out how i pictured them to come out which meant that I then had to go a film certain things again during this week to make sure that all the footage that i need looks how it is supposed to.
What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them?
Some technical challenges that I faced this week was that with trying to move certain things around, the video and the voice would be out of sync, which meant that i had to delete it and reposition it so that it would all be in the right place with the voice and video in sync.
What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?
The target that I aim to achieve before my next entry is to have at least the first 2-3 minuets all edited, to also make sure that I have done all the voice overs with the voice recorder, and finally to have all the footage on final cut pro so that I do not have to keep using the memory card.

Production Log 1
What progress did you make since your previous entry?
In my first week I had completed the final contact list as well as the crew list, call sheets and the final proposal, this has been progress as the week before I did not have all of these things completed as I was finishing off previous work in the media lesson.
What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
The logistical challenges that I faced this week was trying to get into contact with certain youth groups, as the would either say that they are not able to do it as no one can speak to me or they did not reply to the email. The way that I overcame these challenges was that I changed my documentary a bit so that I would ask several people the same question and put it into different parts of the documentary, by also using experts to tie the story together.
What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them?
I did not face any technical difficulties as I have not yet filmed any of the scenes for the documentary as most of the parts are being filmed at an event.
What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?
I aim to have filmed all of the scenes of my documentary by my next media lesson, I also aim to have all the pre production paper work done. I am also aiming to have the narrative arch finished by my next lesson to make sure I know what I will be filming

My Final Proposal
Aims
I am aiming to tell the audience about teenage deaths within gang involvement, and how families feel about there sons or relatives deaths. I will share with the audience my knowledge on the topic from the research I have done. During my documentary I will not make anyone who is being interviewed feel uncomfortable or under stress to say what happened.
Content
The content of my documentary will involve facts and figures that I have researched. I will have a lot of opinion based interviews, and also factual interviews hopeful from the Police Crime Commissioner and also from an MP in an area where the crimes are higher. I will also be interviewing a family who has lost their son in the summer of 2015. During the documentary I will include images and different quotes from the information that I have obtained from secondary research. At the beginning of the documentary I will say to the camera that this documentary may be emotional for certain viewers.
Target Audience
The target audience for my documentary is 16-24, British both gender'sand mixed ethnicity. My documentary is quite mainstream so I would make it more of an informational documentary, so that the audience can know more about the topic of teenage deaths with involvement with gangs. I aim to stay objective throughout the documentary to provide the audience with both sides of the story.
Format
The format of my documentary will be participatory, throughout it there will be a presenter who will introduce the each topic. The presenter will introduce the audience at the beginning and the end of the documentary. I will make sure that during the documentary, as the presenter, I will remain professional whilst still empathising with victims or their families.
During my documentary I will be using graphics to get some of the information that I did not say on camera or on a voice over , I would put the graphics onto different shots, so that the audience are not just seeing me. In the picture the graphic says self-obsession and this is the type of graphics that I would use so that the audience can still see me and also see the facts that I am presenting to them.
Genre
My genre is documentary drama. This is due to the fact that I will be showing and informing the audience of real events that have taken place. Due to it being a documentary I will make sure that there are no competitions or games, I will make sure that there are interviews, some images or graphics and opinions from other people. I will also have voice overs and a edit montage at the beginning to introduce the show and tell the audience what the documentary will be about.
Style
During my documentary I will be using different shot types, editing styles, graphics and also sound. My documentary style will be more of an urban feel as from the documentary's that I have watched previously that are similar to my documentary they use more of and urban style for example in a lot of Reggie Yates documentary at the beginning you see shots of him walking on the street and having a voice over to introduce the show. (here is an example) When I introduce the show I will have several different shots of me walking and showing the locations that I am in. The shots that I would use at the beginning is establishing shot to introduce the show i would also have close ups of the street names to show the audience what type of area that I am in and finally I would add mid shots to show the audience who is presenting the documentary to them. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b06svrw2/reggie-yates-extreme-uk-3-dying-for-a-six-pack
From watching this documentary (Extreme Uk) I am aiming for a fast paced editing style similar to Race Riots USA, as it draws the audience in and keeps them interested and engaged in the programe, also showing some stuff that happens during the show. I would also go for this style as it is engaging from the start as you see Reggie Yates walking around the area where he will be filming the most and where the thing that he is documenting about is taking place the most. At the beginning of this is the example of how I would possibly start my documentary. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqImnVYBP9o
For the sound (music) I would have more of an urban style (Hip-Hop instrumental) of music to fit it with the editing styles and the shots so I would use this type of music as it would add that feeling of urban-ness at the beginning of the documentary as it fits with my documentary due to the fact that it is to do with teenage boys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3fV-PXfa9U
During my documentary I will be using graphics to get some of the information that I did not say on camera or on a voice over , I would put the graphics onto different shots, so that the audience are not just seeing me. In the picture the graphic says self-obsession and this is the type of graphics that I would use so that the audience can still see me and also see the facts that I am presenting to them.Saturday, 2 January 2016
Analysing The Competition
KKK - The Fight For White SupremacyChannel BBC3
Day Monday at 21:01
Viewing Figures - 93300
Similarities - The similarities between this documentary and my own documentary is that it is about one group of people in society who are different and also they interview several people who are involved in the KKK, this is similar to my documentary as mine is about a certain group in society who are being murdered and I will be interviewing families who have been hurt from this.
My show would beat this in terms of viewing figures due to the fact that it is about something that is happening in Britain and something that is happening now.
Based on this I would broadcast my show at the time 9:00 pm on Tuesday. I would show it at this time as the KKK documentary is shown at 9:00 on a monday and there are similarities between my documentary and the KKK documentary.
Reggie Yates - Race Riots
Channel BBC3
Day Tuesday at 21:03
Viewing Figures - 60800
Similarities - The similarities to my documentary are that a black teenage boy has been murdered by the police and Reggie Yates also speaks to the boy who got murdered friend. This is similar to my documentary as it is about a black teenage boy who has been murdered and i will also be speaking to his friends and family about why they think it happened and how they feel.
My show would beat this in terms of viewing figures due to the fact that my documentary is based in London and it is a current thing that is happening in London.
From this research I would broadcast my documentary on a Monday night at 9:00 pm as that is when people are usually watching the TV to see the news and other shows that they have missed, so they will be looking for new documentary's to watch.
Autopsy - Amy Winehouse
Channel 5
Day Monday at 21:00
Viewing Figures - 15360
Similarities - The similarities between this documentary and my own documentary is that during this documentary there is autopsy results and scans witch is similar to my documentary due to the fact that I will be speaking about deaths and murders etc.
My show would beat this in terms of viewing figures due to the fact that my show is more about teenagers and parents and different families and how they feel where as this documentary is just about one person, this would beat it in viewing figures as the audience watching can relate more to the documentary.
Due to this I would broadcast my show on Monday night at 9:00 pm as that is the time that most of the interesting documentaries come on the TV during the week at around 9:00 pm.
