Analysis of A news package

The news report that I am analysing is the London Riots 2012. During this news report the 6 conventions are used throughout below are the time coded examples of where the conventions have been used.

Report Structure At the start of the of this news report there is sign in and context. This is done at the time code 0:01 where the reporter speaks about what is happening with the riots and where it is happening. This is done to give the audience more knowledge on what is happening in the area where the riots are and also where the riots are spreading to.
During the news report there is a lot of archive footage. This is done at the time code 2:23, where the archive footage is showing a building on fire. This is done to make the audience visually see what is happening during the riots. This also adds realism to the story as they audience can visually see what is happening in London.
In this report the facts are given by the anchor saying it to the audience and then having archive footage to back the point up. At the time code 2:22 the anchor speaks about where the violence has spread to then speaks about the fire in Croyden. This is done so that the audience will believe what the anchor is saying. This is also done to give more emphasis to how serious this news report is. A reporter is at the scene where the police are. At the time code 3:18 there is a reporter shown on location of where the riots are taking place. This has been done to inform the audience on how dangerous the situation is as she is standing in front of a police line.

Field Reporter
The field reporter that is doing this story is wearing smart / formal type clothing. At the time code 3:23 you can see that the reporter is wearing a blazer with a top and trousers. This has been done to make the audience believe what the reporter is saying, where as if the reporter had on a tracksuit the audience would not believe what she is saying.
In this report the field reporter is an observer. At the 3:18 you see the reporter standing behind the police line. This is done to communicate to the audience how dangerous the situation is as she is standing at a safe distance in front of the police line.
The choice of the reporter is a white female who is quite posh. At the time code 3:18 you can see that the reporter is a white female, and when she speaks she speaks quite posh.
There are no graphics whilst the reporter is speaking to the audience.

Mode Of Address
After the opening introduction the anchor introduces a serious tone to the audience. At the time code 2:11 the anchor has a serious tone of voice. This is done to make the audience aware of a serious problem/issue that was occurring in London at the time.
The language complexity was not that complex. At the time code 2:04 - 2:54 you can see that she is using quite simple words so that all viewers can understand. This has been done as it is a serious matter and there is no need for complex words during the report.
Fact provider Vs Analysing expert. At the time code 2:02 - 3:39 all the reports just say facts and do not speak about there opinion. This is done to just give the audience all the facts on what is happening around London, as this is not a story where opinions count.

Links To Studio
The reporter has pre-recorded the scene of where part of the riots were. At the time code the reporter is with the police, you can see that it is not live as it does not say live in the corner or anywhere on the screen. The reports level of involvement is not to much as she is at a safe distance in Hackney so that nothing will happen to her. This has been done to show the audience the danger of going to where the riots are happening.
3:18
The camera language for the report is quite creative. At the time code 2:03 the camera swoops down towards the anchor as she is about to start the report. This is done to get the audiences attention to look at the anchor as the camera continues to go closer to her until 2:14 where it is now stationed at a mid shot.
There is a package during this story even though it is breaking news this is because it has been going on for several days. At the time code 2:06 the anchor starts to the speak about the riots and what has been happening during the riots. This has been done to update the audience on what has been going on and also where the riots are now moving to.

Interviewing Experts And Witnesses
Whilst interviewing Acting Commissioner Tim Godwin the camera technique that is used is a 4:52 you can see the camera is placed straight on Tim Godwin in a mid shot. This is done to show the audience that this is a serious interview and that the things the police officer is stating is serious.
mid shot. At the time code
The location of this interview is outside the metropolitan police building. At the time code 4:55 you can see the metropolitan police sign in the background. This has been done to help frame the story for the audience watching at home.
The statues of the interviewee is that he is a commissioner which means that he is second in charge. Tim Godwin is being interviewed to give the audience more of an insight of what the police will be doing to try an keep control of what is going on in London.
There is a graphic of the person being interviewed. At the time code 4:53 the graphic comes up of the name and what the person being interviewed does this done to to give the audience information on who is being interviewed and what role he is playing in trying to get control of the riots.

Actuality Footage
This piece of footage has come from a non professional camera, most probably a passer by 5:21 you can see the footage of people trying to smash a shop window using chairs. This has been used because the news has not got any footage of something like that as they was not there in time. There has only been a small amount of the footage used as the footage is not to clear and that could be the only amount the person recording had recorded. The news have made it easier for the audience by adding voice overs, over the top of the actuality footage at the time code 5:23. All of this has been done to make the audience realise how serious the situation is and also to make the audience see how bad the riots are in certain areas.
or someone actually involved. At the time code
