What help is given to the family's ?
This website can help families that have children involved in gangs as there is a number that you can call to ask for support or help by speaking to the family support worker. The families can go to different contacts about there children who are in gangs one of them is Family Lives another is the NSPCC where adults that are concerned about children can call up and speak or ask someone for advice.
Why do people get involved with gangs ?
From this website I have found that people normally join gangs with "the promise of money, drugs and / or excitement." It has also been said that some of the youths have been found to join gangs for protection of the area that they are from. Another reason for them joining the gang is due to the consequences if they decide not to join the gang.
people also join gangs due to role models, education failure, lack of identity, discrimination or poverty
For some people joining gangs could appeal to them as a friend or family could be in the gang already, which could motivate them to join that gang
Another reason why young people may join gangs is due to the respect and status that they would get from being in a gang as everyone would know them and everyone would respect them as they know they are part of a gang.
A final reason why young people may join gangs is because they want to find a substitute family, from there real family as they could have problems at home where as when they are in the gang they are treated like family and prefer it to there normal family home life.
Jonathan Toy says that pressure is one of the reasons why people join gangs. He says " The other issue is the pressure in terms of peers money and a sense of belonging. It is a cumulative, so as it builds up, those young people get involved in gangs or gang lifestyle."

This has developed my idea as I now know what the commissioner and the mayor think of the situation. I also found out the different facts and figures of different crimes and the amount of homicides etc.
Is anyone preventing people from joining gangs ?
August 2014 the NSPCC launched a service from there 24/7 help line, which gives parents, carers or any other adult who are worried about the child's risk or life from the gang activities or targeted by gangs the NSPCC helpline is there for them.Trident Gang Crime Command - tackle gang violence and prevent shooting or stabbing. They have community engagement which is having someone that listens to the young people involved in gangs and acts on their concerns.
This has developed my idea as I now know the different groups that are helping young people from joining or getting out of the gangs that they are currently in at the moment.
